The National Treasurer of the Labour Party, Oluchi Oparah, has accused the party’s National Chairman, Julius Abure, of engaging in anti-party activities.

Oparah made the allegation on Tuesday in a television-monitored interview, alleging that Abure prevented her from exercising her constitutionally assigned role of handling the party’s accounts.

The statement is coming on the heels of her demand on Monday during a press conference in Abuja that Abure should render an account of party funds of over three point billion naira, being proceeds of the sale of forms and sundry fundraisers for the 2023 general elections.

The Labour Party in its response issued a statement, saying she was being sponsored by persons outside the party; claims Oparah denied, saying Abure has been in alliance and talks with the Peoples Democratic Party government in Edo State.

She said: “I want to state the fact that they are masters at disseminating wrong information. What do I mean by that? When issues like these are being played out, the right thing to be done is to carry out an investigation. And I am speaking from the place of strength, asking that the right thing should be done.”

“Now, they are always quick to accuse someone of being sponsored, especially from the opposition party. I want to State it clearly here that if there’s anybody that has any alliance with the opposition, it’s the National Chairman of the Labour Party. Let him come out and say he hasn’t been in talks with the government of Edo State.”
