Four people have been reportedly killed by suspected herdsmen in renewed attacks on two villages in the Miango district of the Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau State.

The assailants launched an attack on the Nkienzha community in the Miango district of Rigwe Chiefdom in the early hours of Monday, killing three people and injuring one.

Confirming the incident to journalists, the National Publicity Secretary of the Irigwe Development Association, Mr. Davidson Malison, said those who had machete cuts are receiving treatment at a medical facility.

The fourth death was recorded in another attack on Teegbe village on Saturday night, while a vehicle was burnt and one person was injured in an ambush reported to have occurred on Friday.

Malison identified the deceased as Gadan Zhwe (50), Lydia Yakubu (48), Nuhu Yakubu (23), and Musa Wolo (32).

“The leadership of the Rigwe Nation, through the Traditional Council and the Development Association, IDA, has described the resurgence of attacks and killings as callous and barbaric and cautioned the perpetrators to immediately halt the mayhem being unleashed in the land.

“IDA is calling on the security agencies to apprehend them and make them face the wrath of the law. We equally call on the constituted authorities to do the needful in order to restore normalcy in the land so that we can continue our activities without hitches and glitches,” he said.

The paramount ruler of Rigwe Chiefdom, the Rev. Ronku Aka, and Irigwe Development Association President, Robert Ashi, called on security agencies to ensure that perpetrators of the heinous crime are apprehended and prosecuted accordingly.

Spokesperson of Operation Safe Haven, Captain Oya James, who also confirmed the incident, said the timely response of the troops made the attackers flee the community.

According to Persecondnews, bloodthirsty marauders have been attacking Plateau State for a number of years, with the attack on about 15 communities in the state’s Bokkos and Barkin-Ladi council areas on Christmas eve being the most concerning.

The attack left over 200 dead, many houses and farmlands in ashes, and scores injured.
