Chelsea release statement on incident between Conor Gallagher and a mascot

One of Chelsea’s captains, Conor Gallagher has been under scrutiny by football fans around the world following his incident with a mascot before the game against Burnley.

Gallagher has been abused on social media ever since because the captain accidentally failed to acknowledge a high-five from the mascot which to the 24-year-old being accused of racism.

However, Chelsea have released a statement condemning the trolls that are been targeted at Gallagher. According to the club, the incident was blown out of proportion by those on social media.

The statement read as follows,

“Chelsea Football Club is aware of a video clip circulating on social media from Saturday’s fixture against Burnley, which has been taken considerably out of context. subsequent level of abuse and defamatory comments directed towards Conor Gallagher is completely unacceptable.”

What happened between Gallagher and the mascot?

In the six-second video circulating on social media, it was seen that as Gallagher prepared to lead the team out at Stamford Bridge, the young mascot raised his hand hoping for a handshake. But Gallagher appeared to ignore him and instead put his arm around another mascot standing alongside him in the tunnel.

However, a picture showed Gallagher with his arms around both mascots a few seconds after the original clip.
