President Bola Tinubu has sacked a former Inspector General of Police, Solomon Arase, as Chairman of the Police Service Commission (PSC).

In his place, Mr. Hashimu Argungu, a retired Deputy Inspector General of Police, has been appointed.

Persecondnews recalls that immediate past President Muhammadu Buhari appointed Arase in January 2023.

According to the statement by the President’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Chief Ajuri Ngelale, titled “President Tinubu appoints new leadership for the Police Service Commission and Nigerian Police Trust Fund,” the President also appointed Chief Onyemuche Nnamani as Secretary of the Commission and retired DIG Taiwo Lakanu as member.

The appointments are subject to confirmation by the Senate.

He said other members of the commission will be appointed in due course.

The President has also approved Mr. Mohammed Sheidu’s appointment as Executive Secretary of the Nigeria Police Trust Fund, effective immediately.

“The President expects an absolute demonstration of integrity, diligence, and patriotic zeal in the discharge of these important functions for the overall wellbeing of the Nigeria Police and the nation,” the statement said.
